Eye Care Awareness Month - The Gift of Sight
National Eye Care Awareness month kicked off on the 21st of September 2015 and ended on the 18th of October 2015. The purpose of Eye Care Awareness month was to educate and raise awareness about eye health, specifically the prevention and treatment of blindness.
For P.E. Eye and Laser Institute, Eye Care Awareness month was about giving sight back to those who do not have the benefit of a Medical Aid or the funds to afford a cataract removal procedure.
As part of their community service outreach program the Eye and Laser Institute and Medical Forum Theatre Day Hospital provided free cataract operations to twenty patient whom had been screened by Nkosinathi Foundation for the Visually Impaired at the Eye Clinic at the Provincial Hospital in Port Elizabeth.
The MFT Day Hospital staff, Ophthalmologists, Dr. Finestone and Dr Kettledas as well as Anesthetist Dr. van Rooyen donated their expertise, time and service to perform cataract removal procedures on these deserving patients. The other Ophthalmologists will be helping more deserving patient throughout the year.
