Dr. Johan Benade

Dr Johan Benade has been a registered ophthalmologist since 1980 and for the most, in private practice. Prior to that, he matriculated in Pretoria and went on to study medicine at the University of Pretoria. He specialized at the University of the Orange Free State.

Dr Benade has attended 11 internationally accredited courses and workshops on various ophthalmic topics and procedures. During 1998 and 1999 he spent time in the United States, Great Britain and Germany, where he qualified in Laser Aesthetic Surgery. Dr Benade attends International conferences on a regular basis.

During his career, he has participated in numerous clinical research studies on behalf of several pharmaceutical companies with ophthalmic products. He is currently a Director of the Eye and Laser Institute and resident ophthalmic surgeon.

His presentations at professional meetings have covered topics such as “Tear deficient kerato-konjunctivitis” to “Practical aesthetic surgery using the Ultra Pulse Co2 Laser” where he was invited as speaker and surgeon.

Dr Benade’s sub-specialities are cataract, refractive surgery and glaucoma treatment.
