Dr Michael Schultz qualified as a general practitioner in 1986 at the University of Stellenbosch in South Africa. He went on to specialize in ophthalmology at the University of the Orange Free State. Here he worked as full-time consultant at the Universitas and National Hospitals in Bloemfontein. He started in private practice at the end of 1994 in Port Elizabeth.

Dr Schultz has an active practice in all fields of ophthalmology with special interest in glaucoma, diabetes, cataract surgery and laser/refractive surgery.

He is a member of the Ophthalmological Society of SA and the Southern African Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgery and a Founder member of the SA Glaucoma Society.
He has ongoing involvement in various international clinical trials for new glaucoma treatment.

Dr Schultz is a founder member and current Director of the Eye & Laser Institute in Port Elizabeth, South Africa.

Dr Schultz also consults in Cradock and Somerset East in the Eastern Cape.

Eye Care Awareness Week

Cataract surgeries to benefit less fortunate during Eye Care Awareness Week

In celebration of Eye Care Awareness Week 2011, the Port Elizabeth Eye and Laser Institute, in partnership with the PE Provincial hospital’s ophthalmology department, provided free cataract surgery to a select group of 24 individuals.

The Institute’s resident ophthalmologists performed cataract procedures on Saturday, 8 October 2011 at the recently re-launched Medical Forum Theatre – the Eastern Cape’s only private day hospital.
