Dr Dean Barclay

Dr Dean Barclay qualified as a general practitioner in 1992 at the University of Witwatersrand in South Africa. He completed his internship at Livingstone Hospital, Boksberg/Benoni Hospital, respectively.
Between 1995 and 1997 Dr Barclay was a general practitioner and partner at the Sunningdale 24 hour Emergency Centre. He then ran his own private practice until 1999.
Dr Barclay went on to specialize in ophthalmology and was an Ophthalmology Registrar at King Edward Hospital in Durban. He started in private practice in Port Elizabeth at the beginning of 2003 at the Eye and Laser Institute.
Dr Barclay has a special interest in Cataract Surgery, Medical and Surgical Retina, Diabetes, Eyelid Surgery, Glaucoma, Lasik and Refractive Surgery.
In 2014, Dr Barclay attended a Medical and Surgical Retinal Fellowship at Royal Free London Hospital in the UK for six months under the supervision of Mr Riaz Asaria.
He has participated in a number of clinical trials for glaucoma and refractive surgery. In addition, Dr Barclay has attended congresses on Cataract and Refractive Surgery, Glaucoma and a Custom Ablation Lasik workshop.
Dr Barclay also consults in Port Alfred every second week.
